Artist Highlight: 33col3

This week’s creative technician, 33col3, is a 21-year old out of Central New Jersey, currently studying Music Business at Syracuse University. Having experienced some creative dissonance around the fall before last, the woes have catalyzed him to continue embarking on his musical journey under the new guise of 33col3.

Writing and song-making since high-school resonated with him, but to take it serious at the time meant he’d be outcasting himself, so when college came about, 33col3 arose as a result of experimenting with a reddit band collective titled ROMA. A big homage he has paid to his career finally gravitating in the right direction is the reception of his song  “SHILOH”, a love expository released December 10, 2021. The twangy hip-hop track has amounted to over 5 million streams on Spotify alone.

“kaz katana” is his latest release, as of December 7, 2022, to conclude the old year. The harmonious, fluttery tale was just his third single drop of the year, but a banger nonetheless. The namesake was an unintentional allusion to Neo Yokio (a sci-fi series), but the conceptualization is an even cooler lense into 33col3’s mind:

“This was the first time that I ended up releasing a track that I produced myself from scratch, so I’m definitely proud of that...For our senior capstone class we had to start a new business, so a friend and I created an AI artist project. I already had the name for the song, so we went with Kaz Katana for the AI’s name too, and ended up putting the AI vocals on the track."

His catalog isn’t particularly thorough but stand alone titles like “WAV3S” & “Moneybag” featuring momentous young rapper, Rich Amiri, have surmounted to host a great building base.

Although the artistry is what calls his name, the music industry is what will make Zack stay as he expressed his convoluted fixation with the field of business and all the while studying to better understand the business side of this industry. Nevertheless, he’a still navigating his own strengths and talents, especially with his recent endeavor into producing:

“I really only started making a lot of my own beats over the summer, and this one was one that really shocked me in terms of my ability as a producer. I finally made something that sounded like me, all by myself.”

Be on the lookout this spring for some things in store! Until otherwise, go stream “kaz katana” down below!
