Kenji, the 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York, discovered his passion for music during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite singing for fun throughout his youth and even dabbling in freestyling with friends over YouTube beats, it was during the lockdown that he began to explore music more seriously. Picking up the guitar, Kenji found his voice as an artist, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists including D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Frank Ocean.
Kenji recently unveiled his latest single, "Salma," which transports listeners into a dreamlike narrative. The song emerged from a whimsical daydream sparked by a sample crafted by Grant LaPointe. In this, Kenji envisioned escaping the pressures of city life and everyday challenges, whisking away to a secluded tropical island away from everything. This fantasy takes an unexpected turn as he imagines meeting someone special amidst the serene backdrop, an ideal scenario that he translated into the melodic story of "Salma."
Looking ahead, Kenji is gearing up to release an EP in early September, eagerly anticipating the chance to showcase the evolution of his artistic journey. Collaborating closely with talented friends, he's crafting a body of work that reflects his growth and artistic vision.
